Chinese advertising art of the 1930s
This gallery contains scans of two Chinese postcard sets, featuring posters made by the Xie Xing Long company in the 1930s. Some were produced as advertising, others were created as gifts for traders from company representatives. The products being promoted include cigarettes and medicines.
Many of the images are very much in the style of the western "pin-up", although choice and
representation of subjects reflect pre-communist Chinese culture.
